If you want to be a part of the beach scene, just head towards Waikiki Beach near the hotels and the shopping areas. The water is nice and the sand is soft. Oh, and every damn tourist imaginable is right next to you. Literally. You want quiet??? Walk a bit down towards Honolulu Zoo and you'll find a nice tranquil spot with plenty of personal space.
