People bug me when they say, oh my nephew, or my niece, or my god daughter/son.. etc. When I know for a fact that they 1, have no brothers or sisters or 2, aren't really the god parents and just happened to be at the christening/baptismal. and they're saying it just to be cute. SO, here's the definition of each. Just a FYI. lol
- niece [niːs] a daughter of one's sister or brother
- nephew [ˈnɛvjuː ˈnɛf-] a son of one's sister or brother
- Godparent A godparent, in many denominations of Christianity, is someone who sponsors a child's baptism. Judaism has this equivalent in the circumcision ceremony. A male godparent is a godfather and a female godparent is a godmother. The child is a godchild (godson, goddaughter)
